This morning a suspicious bomb went off at the post office and an investigation is currently being conducted.
At 7:30 this morning a bomb went off at the Palmyra Post Office. As the driver of the mail truck was unloading mail from the Richmond plant, a bomb exploded and covered him in a white powdery substance. The postmaster went inside and the inside of the post office became contaminated. All employees present at the time of the bombing are quarantined.
There is no news as to what the white powdery substance was, although it is hypothesized that it is some kind of corrosive powder. The employees that had not arrived yet are being held and pending questioning. There is no word on whether or not anyone was seriously harmed.
Hazmat crews, police officers, and firemen have responded to the scene. Route 15 has been closed down in front of the post office and all traffic is being re-routed. Bomb-sniffing dogs are also on the scene to aid in the investigation. An investigation into the bombing is currently being conducted; the mail may not be delivered today.
This news hits home for me because my mom works at the Palmyra Post Office. I am so thankful that she is okay and I hope everyone else will be fine as well. This week is mail count at the post office, which is when all mail is counted for a week and then used to estimate evaluated route times. I wonder if the attack has anything to do with mail count…or if the original target was the Richmond distribution center. I am interested to see what comes from the investigation.
As updates become available, I will post them.
