Riots and the G20…they go together like peanut butter and jelly…
Rioting at the G20 Summit is nothing new. But it seems that this episode is reaching a fever pitch.
The G20 Summit happens twice a year. The current G20 is being held in Toronto and is on June 26th and 27th. The next will be held in Seoul, South Korea on November 11th and 12th. The G20 Summit is attended by heads of state from 20 of the worlds major economies. Technically, its 19 countries and the EU (European Union). The IMF (International Monetary Fund) is in attendance and are represented by their Chairman and Managing Director. The International Monetary and Financial Committee, Chairman of the Development Committee, and the World Bank President also attend the G20.
Rioting always happens at the G20, but this year, they are getting really fired up in Toronto. It really has nothing to do with Toronto, as I’m sure a lot of the protesters and rioters are not local, but they are doing some damage, none the less. At the time of writing this, multiple police vehicles have been set on fire and numerous buildings have suffered damage of some kind. Here are some pictures of the chaos:
