Sachin Tendulakar is honoured with a rank of Group captain by Indian Air force [IAF]. Now Sachin has become a brand ambassador of Indian Air force by Air chief marshal V.K.Singh. The rank of Group captain in Indian Air force is equal to the Rank of Colonel in the army.
In 2008 KAPIL Dev [Retired Indian cricketer] was honoured with a honorary rank of lieutenant colonel in the Territorial army.
Till now only 21 people are honored with such honorary ranks by the army. The first person to be honoured was Raja jar of yashwant Rai [honored with the rank of Flight lieutenant] in 1944. In 1974 J.R.D Tata was honored with the rank of Air vice marshal by Indian Air force,. Vijayapat singhnia is the last person to be honored with such rank [honored commander of army] in 1990.
Sachin Tendulakar is the only sports person and the only person without any aviation background to be honored with such an honorary rank.

Savhin tendulkar is best cricket player in the world, he is a God of cricket.
I Love cricket well deserved and a wondeful example of how cricket should be and how it should be played.
I too love cricket. Cricket is a wonderful game, but it made worse by betters, who are busy in match fixing and IPLs. I don’t like IPL cricket. Cricket is loosing its natural and real form.
