The Fort Hood Tragedy and America’s Media Terrorists

     Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is now a name that will live in infamy in the annals of American history.  By now, most of us are aware that the Army psychiatrist opened fire on American soldiers at Fort Hood military base in Texas, leaving 12 dead and 31 others injured.  By now, we are all becoming familiar with the details of his personal life, as the media picks the bones of the story.  We will be exposed, over the next few weeks, to every small tidbit of personal minutia from his life.  This is what our media does, and the way prefer it.  We must; we continue to watch.

     But some members of the media have gone entirely too far.  Michael Savage and his ilk have stooped to a new low, even by shameless American media standards.  On his radio show this evening, Mr. Savage, in a show of tastelessness that, as far as I’m concerned puts him on a level with the individual(s) who committed these heinous crimes.  He has used this incident as a catapult for his racist views, blasting the anti- racial profiling mandates instituted by the Clinton administration and insinuating that all Muslims are terrorists.  He even went so far as to blame Obama for the death of these soldiers, and chased that with with a tirade about how this entire scenario ought to lead to the demise of Obama’s health care bill.

     Where to begin?  These soldiers have been gone less than a day.  There are now widowed wives, parentless children, and childless parents.  31 of our troops have been injured… not by enemies as they defended the democracy that allows trash like Savage to do what he does, but by a coward.  And before the families even have the opportunity to grieve, or even bury their lost, this piece of garbage is out politicizing the loss of these troops for his own ratings and political agenda.

     And he is doing so in a manner that is only creating more hatred in our society.  Had the gunmen been white Catholics, we would not by any stretch of the imagination be discuss his religious or racial background.  Morons like him propagate the illusion that every member of this faith; in fact, every person of even remotely Arabic heritage, means to destroy America.  And to use this as an arguing point for opposing the President’s health care bill…  And make no mistake, he isn’t alone.  Is there much chance of the left wing taking the high road and not launching attacks of their own?  Doubtful.  That isn’t the way we do politics in America.

     In short, Savage and his counterparts in the media are garbage; as I said, he is nothing more than a hate mongering terrorist himself.  While I am an absolute believer in the right to free speech, I am also a believer that we should be held accountable for our words.  And I will stand by mine… Savage and those like him are as much terrorists as those who pulled the triggers.

     If we have an ounce of dignity as a society, we will put the attention here squarely where it belongs… on the men and women who fight for our country.  Not only those who died today in Texas, God rest their souls, but those who have been dying for the last several years.  Say a prayer for the families who have lost, and honor them not by buying into hate, but by hoping for a day when no more of our children have to die.
