James P. Robinson worked for Home Depot buying flooring for the chain of almost 2,000 stores. He was one of several employees who were accepting vendor kick backs. Wed,he was sentenced to pay back $1.2 million in restitution to Home Depot and serve a 63 to 73 months sentence. The Feds seized $130,000 in a money market account, two SUVs and a home worth $270,000.
Atlanta Southeast Airlines grounded 60 jets Tuesday due to improper inspections. The jets were to be ferried to maintenance facilities to be inspected. FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said,” We don’t know how much these inspections were overflown. ASA is based in Atlanta but is owned by Utah based SkyWest Inc.

In a survey done at Kennesaw State University’s Economonetric Center, Georgia manufacturing had a slight increase in business during March. Hiring has increased slightly.
The Better Business Burea warned that scammers are sending emails to people to the effect that they have won a million dollars from Publishers Clearing House. They tell the recipient to deposit an accompanying check of $5,000 in their bank account and wire $4,000 back to the scammers to receive the rest of the million dollars. Do not do that. They want to clean out your bank account.
Borders will continue to cut back on expenses by closing stores and cutting jobs, as their sales continue to decline.

DeKalb detention officers were negligent when a fight broke out and a man was killed. The officers said they didn’t hear the calls for help. But an inmate said he saw the guard turn off the alert from the injured mans cell. When the officers had lie detector tests, it registered “deception indicated.” Disciplinary action is pending. It could mean anything from counseling to dismissal.
A Marietta lawyer has been accused of running a ponzi scheme. Robert Price Copeland allegedly defrauded about a 100 people out of more than $30 million.
78 year old Vivian Wiley was killed when she drove off a bridge. Her car was submerged in the creek with the woman’s arm pinned between the roof of the car and the creek bed.
Horace Hutchinson and his wife Stacy face charges of running a disorderly house and providing alcohol to minors. It came to light when a 18 year old girl was dropped off at the hospital unconscious. Horace is also accused of tattooing two minors.

Michael Vick has agreed to do a documentary about himself for $600,000. The offer came from a company called Red Bird Entertainment. He hopes to make $10 million a year. Vick would keep the first $750,000, after that a percentage would go to his creditors.

Thanks for the local news update. But Borders actually made international news. I read in the online version of the London Review of Books (known as LRB) that Borders had invested heavily in the CD market which went bust and are now on the verge of bankruptcy. I personally hope they don’t go under–I quite like Borders.

Thanks guys, We have so much happening around Atlanta. There is no end to it. I hope Borders doesn’t go under either. I like their store. We get the kids gift cards for there.We all love their bargains. Though all of you who know me know that I buy first at the thrift stores for myself, but I like those Borders gift cards.
