This article presents information regarding the unemployment rate. Economists actually claim that the rate of unemployment is closer to 20%. The figure that is used by the US Govt’ reflects only those applying for unemployment, or those qualified to receive unemployment. Also, discussed are ways in which job searching can be improved and questions the motives of job search sites, as well as on-line Universities and immediate solutions to help believe it or not, the working man!
The Unemployment rate hits 10%, well, that is what the Government wants you to believe. They are misrepresenting the truth. The truth is it is double that. You see, they only go by those numbers as reported by the unemployment agencies. They do not take into account certain professions, such as teachers, new graduates, people under the age of 18, people who were not able to collect unemployment benefits, those whose benefits have run out and are still in need, those who were forced to retire do to a variety of reason. The truth is the unemployment rate is actually 19%! We have already hit double digits.
It is going to get worst. There are a few things that can be done to immediately get people back to work. First of all hiring practices need to lighten up. By changing the way in which we determine qualifications. (Hopefully having an inexperienced President will open the door to many, he is an example, after all if he can get the job without substantial experience, then surely the average person can get an entry level position with experience)
- Employers need to stop using the internet as a means of application. It is not a reliable tool for application.
- Job search sites such as CareerBuilder and MonsterJobs are only there to make money off of the use of the internet. They are collect-alls for advertisers and on-line universities.
- IT is a scam. You register for the site and within minutes you get an email from Acapella, University of Phoenix, and whatever on-line University is funding the job search site. Use only non-profit job search sites!
- Both the on-line schools and the job search sites convince you by messing with your psyche that the reason you can’t get hired is that you are under-educated.
- Next in line is FAFSA and good ole Auntie Sallie Mae offering you financial aid at the tune of 7% interest that you will never be able to pay back! (Beware these loans are used against you by way of your credit report!)
- Again, changing the way in which HR determines qualifications. Finally, and this is to the Human Resource departments, just hire! Actually, hire people, stop the game playing, and do not post a position if you really do not have one!
- On the job training is no longer a part of the American way.
No matter which way you slice it, we are in for a rough ride, sadly, there are immediate solutions, but it would cause the ones with the power to give up a little of it.
Oh I know, you want to stimulate the economy? Buy out student loans and save Sallie Mae. Let all of those sitting on degrees that they cannot use make their house payments instead of student loans. You want to stimulate the economy? Then give amnesty to the small business owners who are taxed to death, forgive them their income taxes for a year, stop giving it to corporate America! They are not going to share the wealth! They haven’t yet, why would they do it now? You want to stimulate the economy? Pay off the home loans of anyone making under 100K in the coming year. Forgive student loans. Or, put an immediate freeze on all interest on home, auto, and education loans. Allow the borrower to pay on the balance of their auto loans, student loans, home loans minus interest, believe me, the consumer will buy, buy, buy, and once again the economy will be stimulated!
