The Obama White House wants you to tell them when you come across material, whether its video or email, that disagrees with what what out president says are the “facts”.

Came across an article on the Whitehouse.gov website that I think Americans need to read. Here is an excerpt that is copied verbatim from the article:

“There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care.  These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation.  Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.”

What is our president asking us to do? He is really asking us to send him the information that he deems is disinformation? Do you think he knows that chain emails and forwarded you tube videos contain a lot of email addresses? Is he asking us to “inform” on our friends and family? “Come on all I need to silence any dissent is an email address,” is that what our president is asking us?

I don’t profess to know the answers to those questions. But I do know that the possibilities of some of the answers to those questions scare me. Do I want the white house knowing what I do with my email and my you-tube videos that I share? Not Really. Is it any of their business? I don’t believe so.

Look at the choice of words that they use in the last sentence. What denotes “fishy?” Does fishy mean something that I do not understand on a personal level or does it mean that if it doesn’t outright agree with what our president says I should turn it in?

To me it seems that the White Hose is saying that we know a guy, who knows a guy, who can make people keep their mouth shut. What happened to hearing all sides of an issue? Is freedom of speech and expression dead? Can we not dissent? Can we not provide other plans to revamp health care? America was founded as not only a melting pot of cultures but also of ideas. If we don’t have the collision of ideas then we aren’t America anymore, we will just be America in name only. That’s the kind of country I do not want to live in.
