Update on the situation in Helmand Province.

The Taliban captured a United States Marine.  The event happened Thursday.  The Marines were on patrol in the Taliban controlled Helmand Province when they were engaged by an unknown number of Taliban fighters.  Many of the details are still unclear.

The Marines are out searching for the missing man and hope to recover him from enemy hands.  This is the first time that a U.S. Serviceman captured since the offensive began.  This will no doubt galvanize the Marines.  The Taliban have just stepped into a huge hornets’ nest.

The Marines will go to the ends of the earth for their brothers in arms.  Rest assured that no resource would go untapped to recover the missing Marine. It is yet to be determined if the Marine was equipped with any sort of tracking software when he was captured.  Perhaps a chip with a satellite transponder to help locate him and the terrorists that stole him.

It is unclear if the Marine’s are using such technology and if they are, it is not public knowledge.  The Taliban should be very wary, because even if the technology does not exist, they should be lead to believe it does.  This is where psychological warfare can be helpful.

If the military is not using such technology, it should start.  There are thousands of Marines in Helmand and yes, it would be a logistical nightmare.  We do know that microchips are getting smaller and smaller all the time.  If it means saving even one life from the barbaric Taliban, we should use it.

There is palpable fear that the Marine may end up on the internet.  United States Marines are not amateurs.  The Taliban are going to find out the hard way that Special Forces operators are in the area and will take no prisoners, except for information gathering.  Terry Taliban is in very big trouble.
