Late blooming author and Pulitzer prize winner Frank McCourt died today, here is a look at who he was.

The first of seven children, Irish American, raised in poverty spending early years in both America and Ireland.  He of course had his place in the war, WW2, and afterwords got his teaching degree which he used to have a thirty year run as a teacher before retiring.  This is where his life starts to get interesting and why he is sometimes referred to as a late bloomer.

He Angela’s Ashes, for which he won a Pulitzer prize, which details his early life, being raised in poverty in Ireland, and later growing up an immigrant in America.  He a couple more books “Tis” about being an immigrant in American, and “Teacher Man” about being a teacher.

He died today, July 19 at the age of 78.
