The Montgomery County Police Department reported the death of a 3-year-old who shot himself mistakenly during his birthday party over the weekend.
The incident occurred at the boy’s residence Saturday at about 25 miles outside of Houston. According to deputies, family and friends had gathered at the boy’s home in Porter, Texas when they heard a gunshot. The family who noted they were playing cards at the time found the child with an injury to the chest.
Police say investigations show that the gun had fallen from a family member’s pocket after which the boy picked it.
The 3-year-old died from the gunshot wound at a nearby hospital where he was taken following the incidence.
The Sheriff’s Office sends its thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the child.
It is, however, unstated if further investigations are ongoing.
