Man Fatally Throws a 2-month-old Infant Off Balcony in Las Vegas

The police have arrested a Las Vegas man for throwing his 2-month-old daughter from an apartment balcony, leading to her death.

Police said they responded to 10115 Jeffreys Street, near St. Rose Parkway and Eastern Avenue having received a report of domestic disturbance from the area at around 3:45 a.m. It was reported that a man had thrown a 2-month-old girl from the balcony.

Arriving at the scene, police found the mother attempting CPR on her baby. They added that they could not catch the suspect, 32-year-old Clarence Martin Jr., who was seen fleeing the neighbourhood.

The baby was pronounced dead at St. Rose Hospital where she was taken following the accident, police said.

According investigations, Martin threw the baby off their second-story balcony during a fight with his girlfriend. The lady ran outside to the baby and called the police while the suspect reportedly set the apartment on fire and fled from the area. The fire killed the family dog.

The fire was extinguished few minutes past 4 a.m. by the Clark County Fire Department. Officials, however, noted that the fire damaged the apartment and the one below displacing some residents.

Police said the suspect was later arrested at McCarran International Airport following his involvement in a car accident. He was taken to a hospital and booked for open murder, animal cruelty and arson in absentia.

Investigations are ongoing to verify the cause of the fire.
